A boutique hotel that is also a gallery. Near the Fine Arts Museum, in Frans Smet-Verhas’s Art Nouveau complex. Owner Aida Heerman fell for Desiree at the Salone del Mobile; its pieces now furnish the lobby, wellness area and four suites.

Modica, Italy
A retreat around a Mediterranean garden. A building from 1554 near the Cathedral of San Giorgio, restored in 2014 as a small guest house: a terraced garden of fig, pomegranate and citrus trees, three bedrooms and a grotto planned as a private spa.
